Bulk Bee Pollen – Are You Really Sure You Are Getting the Best?
When we talk of bulk bee pollen, we are thinking of the raw granules which are gathered directly from the hive and then preferably air or freeze dried. This can be kept in a refrigerator and then consumed either directly, up to two teaspoons daily or sprinkled on cereals, yogurts and smoothies. The taste of this bulk bee pollen is sometimes described as rather bitter but when it becomes rancid that may be an indication that moisture has got into it at some point in its processing.
Many people prefer taking bee pollen capsules because there are so many safety features built in if you buy from a reputable company. Once you are sure of the source and the standards they use for processing, then you are on to a winner.
Why bee pollen is a super supplement
The importance of bee pollen in as a nutritional aid cannot be over emphasised. After all, it contains several flavonoids and includes myricetin. This latter nutrient plays a vital role in getting rid of the LDL which is also known as the bad cholesterol in the blood.
In addition, the number of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and other trace elements is unsurpassed so it really makes it worthwhile to check out the source. As I said, you may think that buying bulk bee pollen at the local farmers’ market is a guarantee but on the other hand we do not know exactly what rules the beekeepers have followed and how closely they have been regulated and whether they are using antibiotics or not.
Are your local beekeepers using antibiotics or not?
It has been estimated that over a third of the honey offered to importers actually contains antibiotic residues so this is alarming. But local beekeepers both in the USA and in the EU are still using antibiotics to fight pests, bacteria and other disease in the bee colonies. Some beekeepers may apply for Maximum Residue Levels for certain antibiotics which may be essential in fighting a fatal disease but in general, they should be raising bees organically without the use of any antibiotics.
Where are the safest areas for bee pollen foraging?
Although the area may be pollution free, we also do not know how winds can carry GM microbes, pollution, radiation and other contaminants from neighboring areas. The only areas which are safe are those situated in remote areas of Canada and of course, New Zealand, which is my favourite source for this valuable nutritional aid.
Why not use the bee pollen capsules we are using which are from unpolluted New Zealand and which are manufactured to the highest standards. You will never buy bulk bee pollen from your farmers’ market again
