Bee Pollen Toronto And Canadian Government Initiatives To Save Honeybees
The honey industry is worth about $15 billion a year in the US and the figures for Canada are equally impressive. Looking at bee pollen, Toronto and Canadian initiatives, we find that Canada is heading up some important research funding in order to understand why exactly the bees are under threat and what can be done to reduce the decimation.
Researchers at the University of Guelph and the University of British Columbia Department of Food and Resource Economics are now asking for beekeepers’ feedback on pollination, queen breeding and beekeeping practice in general.
The other aspect of bee pollen in Toronto is that there are a host of farmers’ markets in the city area and a lot of them are offering fresh bee pollen. This is great but it is better to check out some of the claims that these are really organic can be actually backed up by a few facts. Very probably not.

Honeybees under threat
The first problem is that the honeybees and also the solitary bees are now under threat and about three years ago, both Canadian and American beekeepers were reporting alarming losses of about 35% in their bee colonies. As both types of bees are essential for the pollination of up to 90 crops, the problem is urgent to say the least.
One of the best ways to ensure that the bee pollen you are buying is actually from a pristine source is to seek out brands which are foraged in nature reserves n remote areas of Canada and New Zealand. Obviously these will have to be in capsule form but if properly processed, this is a further guarantee of purity and safety when the GMP practices are followed. If the capsules are not of GMP standards, then it is better to avoid them altogether.

Moving from bee pollen Toronto and Canadian issues to the situation in the UK, we find that there are encouraging moves to raise public awareness of the problem. For example the British Beekeepers Association has doubled its members in just three years. They now have 20,000 members. They report that beehives are now being built on allotments, office rooftops and in schools. But strangely enough they have recieved grants from Bayer and have endorsed some of their pesticides as being safe for bees, as evidenced by the participants on this video.

The Bee Guardian Foundation is also active in the UK and is encouraging towns to win the accolade of being a ‘bee guardian city’ Initiatives include local grounds maintenance teams who will replace plants which yield very little nectar or pollen with bee-friendly herbaceous perennials.
As we have seen, the battle for the bees is not lost as initiatives on both sides of the Atlantic make sure that the bee pollen, Toronto and Canadian efforts will not be in vain.
